5 Mistakes Not to Make For Your Quinceanera Speech
Hey Queens!
Giving a speech at your quinceañera is a great way to show your appreciation to your guests and the special people in your life. And trust me, I know having to talk in front of your close friends and family at your quinceañera can seem super intimidating at first. So I’ve put together 5 mistakes to avoid during your quinceanera thank you speech. With these 5 tips, you’ll be prepared to give your best speech in front of all your friends and family at your quinceañera.
#1 Holding the Mic Too Low
I see this problem happen all the time. The quinceañera or her parents go to say a special thanks to their guests and no one can hear them. It’s one of those things you don’t even know is happening until you get your video back and can’t hear yourself. This problem can easily be solved by making sure you hold the microphone directly in front of your mouth. It should be so close it’s almost touching your lips. It can feel a little awkward but this is the best way to make sure your speech gets heard by all of your guests.
#2 Background Music Too Loud
If the background music is too loud while you're speaking, you could run into the same problem as holding the microphone too low. No one hears what you have to say. Be sure to let your DJ know to lower the background music during your speech. You want everyone to be able to hear what you have to say without any music playing too loudly over your voice.
#3 Not Writing Out What You Want To Say
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard my quinceañeras tell me they're going to come up with their thank you speech on the spot. And unsurprisingly it doesn’t go as smoothly as they think it will. I always discourage improvising your speech because a lot can go wrong when you don’t prepare ahead of time.
You don’t want to,
Start rambling,
Repeat the same things over and over
Freeze up in front of all your friends and family
Taking time to write your speech before the quinceañera can prevent all these things from happening. I recommend typing up what you want to say and printing out a physical copy you can read at the quinceañera. Some of my girls have even typed up their speeches on their phones and read from there.
Pro Tip: Be careful when reading off your phone, the words will be a lot smaller and harder to read.
#4 Leaving Important People Out of The Speech
No quinceañera wants to get the microphone at their party and forget to thank their parents or other role models.
Here’s a list of some important people to keep in mind for your thank-you speech:
Parents
Godparents
Grandparents
Aunts and Uncles
Cousins
Best Friends
Court of Honor
Padrinos / Sponsors
The Venue and Vendors
#5 Not Practicing the Speech Before The Quinceañera
It’s so important that when you deliver your speech you're clear and confident in your delivery. A little bit of practice before the quinceañera can go a long way.
Here are a few ways to practice your speech before the presentation,
Recite your speech out loud. Try practicing in front of a mirror or alone in your bedroom.
Recite your speech in front of your friends or family. Practicing in front of people will help you get used to being in front of an audience and allow you to get feedback.
Record yourself. Being able to watch yourself will help you see areas you can improve on such as your delivery or timing.
Conclusion
If you want to look and feel your best, take the necessary time to write, plan, and practice your speech before your quinceañera. Remember this speech is a direct reflection of your transition into womanhood. A chance for you to show your appreciation to the special people who have supported you throughout your life. The more you prepare and practice your speech, the more confident and comfortable you’ll feel in your delivery at your quinceañera.
Good Luck, you got this!
